For April's conference I did a talk-by-talk breakdown, and it took FOREVER! It literally took me six diligent months to work through it (which perhaps is why they hold these things every six months). Anyway, I realized that I needed to do something different this go around. Last night I started reading the most recent conference addresses and I quickly devoured the first two session's talks. I found myself speed reading and highlighting short excerpts from each address--the lines that stood out and spoke to me. I am a visual learner, so I made a mosaic of the quotes I pulled. They are visual triggers that help my mind and heart recall the thoughts and feelings I had as I listened. I thought I would share it with you:
I've never approached conference this way, but I think it will help me more quickly and effectively assimilate the information into my life. Studying and pondering I have learned should not be a 'check-it-off the list' thing we do but an ongoing, evolving, continual process. This won't be my only reading through these talks, but it was rewarding to study it in this manner. I encourage you to try it. Figure out what your mental mosaic looks like.
Some may wonder what this has to do with our current political and economical situation. I would assert it has EVERYTHING to do with it. The moral issues of our day (which in turn affect every other facet of our lives) are best addressed in the home, and if our homes are centered around the teachings of Jesus Christ through our inspired prophets and leaders we will be able to withstand all that comes our way. I know as did Alma that:
"the preaching of the word ha[s] a great tendency to lead the people to do that which [is] just—yea, it ha[s] had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else, which ha[s] happened unto them—therefore. . .it [is] expedient that [we] should try the virtue of the word of God."
