Women and Wine

(If you're just joining me, I'm on day two of a forty day countdown to our country's presidential elections.  Please feel free to read the last two posts and catch up. Glad to have you along!)

A couple of things came to me as I watched this.  First, Jesus Christ's mortal sojourn was book-ended by women.  Women were a central feature in His life. The Savior's ministry on Earth opened and closed with Him attending to his mother.

Second, when the governor spoke, "thou hast kept the good wine until now" a deeper meaning revealed itself.  In the scriptures the Second Coming of Jesus Christ is compared to a wedding, the Savior as the bridegroom, and we the invited attendees anxiously awaiting the call to join the marriage feast.  The governor's words give me hope that the best is yet to be, and also that we have been held in reserve to come forth at this time, in this hour to serve any who would come to the table, and to pour out to others the blessings we have enjoyed.

One of the greatest blessings we have is a living prophet and tonight marks the annual address made by our leaders to women.  The Relief Society is the largest women's organization, and the scope of its influence is manifest clearly in the lives of its members.  As a wife and mother, I know first hand that there is never enough time, energy, or ability to do all the things I need and should do.  I know I cannot do this alone, and listening to this yearly broadcast grounds me in what matters most. Another balm for me is an address, delivered by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland entitled Because She is a Mother. (you can click on the title to go to the talk)  If ever you need an infusion of inspiration girls, I hope you'll take five minutes and read this.  It has been a tender mercy for me as of late.

(Sidenote: With General Conference coming up next week, and our monthly fast being moved respectively to an earlier or later date,  I ask you to join me whenever you do fast to do so with our country in mind.  Great miracles require the exercise of strong spiritual muscles.  I hope we can 'work it out'!  Thank you.)
